About the Saint

St. Joseph Cho Yun-ho

He was martyred together with his father, 조화서 베드로(Peter Cho Hwa-seo). After moving to the Catholic village of Seongjido inJeonju, he married 이 루치아(Lucia Yi). During the 1866 병인박해(Byung-in Persecution), father and son were arrested together and enduredinterrogations and torture at the Jeonju governor’s office, encouraging oneanother to remain faithful. Ten days after his father’s martyrdom, Joseph Chowas executed at Supjeongi in Jeonju at age 19, receiving 16 blows of the cudgelbefore being beheaded. With his martyrdom, three generations of the Chofamily—his grandfather 조 안드레아(Andrew Cho), his father PeterCho, and Joseph himself—shared the glory of giving their lives for the faith.
