Even under interrogation, he never uttered a groan of pain.When the magistrate asked why, he replied, “My elderly mother must be outsidethe gate. If I cry out in pain, she will hear it and faint. So I endure it.”When questioned how a man so filial could believe in Catholicism, he responded,“Because the Catholic faith teaches us to honor and love our parents.” Afterenduring brutal torture, he was released, but he died seven days later from itsaftermath at the age of twenty-three. It is said that after his martyrdom, ared mark in the shape of the character “品” appeared on his forehead.
