Theshrine includes an outdoor platform where Mass or services may be celebrated bya priest, a wide grassy field, and the fourteen Stations of the Cross.

 

Jinan-riin Mungyeong-eup is **Oriteo**, the place where **최양업 토마스 신부(Father Thomas Choe Yang-eop)** passed away. While traveling to Seoul to reporton the persecution and his pastoral work to Bishop Berneux, Father Choe fellill with complications from typhoid fever and died at the age of forty in asmall inn within the Oriteo village.

 

Jinan-riShrine was established to commemorate Father Choe, who devoted twelve years topastoral ministry in the midst of countless hardships.

About the Saint

TheServant of God and Witness to the Faith, Father Thomas Choe Yang-eop

Hewas the second Korean priest. Selected as a seminarian by Father Maubant, hestudied in Macau and completed his theological training alongside St. AndrewKim Dae-geon. After receiving priestly ordination from Bishop Maresca, hebecame the second priest of Korea following St. Andrew Kim. Overseven years and six months, he attempted to enter Korea five times andsucceeded, and after twelve years of pastoral ministry, he collapsed fromoverwork and died of typhoid. Fromthe first priest, **St. Andrew Kim Dae-geon**, we learn the martyrdom of blood;from the second priest, **Father Thomas Choe Yang-eop**, we learn the martyrdomof tireless labor.
