์–‘์–‘์„ฑ๋‹น(Yangyang Church), built in 1940 by Father ์ด๊ด‘์žฌ ํ‹ฐ๋ชจํ…Œ์˜ค(Father Timothy Lee Gwang-jae), is a sacred site in Yangyang-gun, Gangwon-do.It stands as a place where the faithful preserved their faith under communistoppression, honoring the spirit of martyrdom. Pilgrims can walk an 18 km routetracing the path Father Lee used to guide Catholics escaping from North Korea.

About the Saint

Servantof God Father ์ด๊ด‘์žฌ ํ‹ฐ๋ชจํ…Œ์˜ค(FatherTimothy Lee Gwang-jae, 1909โ€“1950)

Bornin Gangwon-do in 1909, Father Lee was ordained in 1936 and served devotedly in ํ’์ˆ˜์›(Pungsuwon) and ์–‘์–‘ ๋ณธ๋‹น(Yangyang Parish). He supported the poor andstrengthened the faith of local Catholics. After the liberation, despitecommunist persecution, he remained with his flock, saying, โ€œA shepherd cannotabandon his sheep. I will go with every believer, without exception.โ€ Whilesheltering priests and faithful seeking to flee south, he was arrested by NorthKorean forces in ํ‰๊ฐ•(Pyeonggang) in 1950 and imprisoned in ์›์‚ฐ(Wonsan). He continued praying in confinement and was martyred at age 41,leaving a profound witness of sacrifice and love.
