Euni Village formed during the persecutions as ahidden Catholic village, its nameliterally meaning “a place concealed from sight.” Here in 1836, Fr.Pierre Maubant (모방 신부) baptized AndrewKim Dae-geon, gave him his First Communion, and selected him asa seminarian.

The shrine marks the site of St. Andrew Kim’spastoral ministry and the place where he offered his final farewell to hismother, Ursula Ko. It is ahistorically central location that encompasses his childhood in nearby Golbaemasil, his vocation, ministry, and the path that eventually led to his martyrdom.

A 10.3 km pilgrimage route connects Euni to MirinaeShrine, crossing three mountain passes—Shindeok Pass(Euni Pass), Mangdeok Pass (Hae-sil-i Pass), and Aedeok Pass (Odujae Pass). These were the very routes St. Andrew Kim walked during his ministry.
