Gimje Martyrs’ Shrine

This shrine commemorates the martyrdom of 복자 한정음 스타니슬라오(Blessed Stanislaus Han Jeong-eum). The exact place of his execution isbelieved to be to the left of Gimje Elementary School, and a memorial monumentstands at Yochon Church.

About the Saint

Blessed Stanislaus Han Jeong-eum

Blessed Stanislaus Han encountered the Catholicfaith through his relative, 복자 유항검 아우구스티노(Blessed Augustine YuHang-geom). During the 1801 신유박해(Shin-yu Persecution), he wasarrested and endured repeated, brutal interrogations and torture, yet neverwavered. He was sentenced to death by the Ministry of Justice and was beheadedat age 45.
