“Cheonho” means “to call upon God,” and this landbecame a stronghold of faith where people called by God formed a Catholicvillage. Many martyrs from Jeonju, Gongju, and Yeosan are buried here. Theshrine includes a retreat house, Buhora Church, Thomas Rest Area, ColumbariumChapel, and a Sacred Items Museum.

About the Saint

St. Peter Son Seon-ji)

He faithfully fulfilled his role as communityleader until his martyrdom. During interrogation, his identity as leader wasrevealed, and he was forced to disclose the names of missionaries and theorigins of Church books. He endured severe torture, yet continued to consoleand encourage the imprisoned faithful. He was beheaded at Supjeongi at age 47,calling out the names of Jesus and Mary.

St. Peter Yi Myeong-seo

When soldiers raided the Catholic village ofSeongjido, he refused the urging to flee and, though ill, allowed himself to bearrested. The authorities believed it would be easy to force an ill man toapostatize and therefore interrogated him first with harsh torture, but henever denied the faith. He prayed fervently with the other prisoners andprepared for martyrdom, dying at Supjeongi at age 46.
