Locatedin the heart of Daegu, this area was once the administrative center of theGyeongsang Province and a place where many Catholics were imprisoned, tortured,and executed. During the Eulhae Persecution of 1815 and the JeonghaePersecution of 1827, numerous believers, including Francesco Choi Bong-han,were arrested and confined here. The site is now maintained as a memorial parkunder the care of Daean Church, featuring a plaza with flowers and grass aswell as restored traditional buildings.

BlessedKim Yundeok Agatha Magdalene

KimYundeok embraced the faith after hearing the Gospel in her hometown and laterlived in a Catholic village in Cheongsong. In 1815, on Easter Sunday, she wasarrested along with other believers and sent from Gyeongju to Daegu. Amidsevere torture, she initially weakened and apostatized, but, moved by theexhortation of Kim Jonghan Andrea, she ran back to the magistrate’s office toprofess her faith openly. She was again tortured and eventually died a martyrin prison.
