Jinsan is the site of the historic JinsanIncident, the first event in Korean Catholic history thatled to the shedding of blood for the faith. It was here that the refusal toperform Confucian ancestral rites resulted in execution outside the South Gateof Jeonju.

About the Saint
Blessed 윤지충 바오로(Paul Yun Ji-chung, 1759–1791)
Paul Yun Ji-chung burned his family’s ancestraltablets in obedience to the Church’s prohibition of ancestral rites and infidelity to his mother’s dying wish. For this act of faith, he was executed atage 33.
Blessed 권상연 야고보(James Kwon Sang-yeon, 1751–1791)
James Kwon Sang-yeon, a cousin of Paul Yun, learnedthe Catholic faith from him. He likewise burned the ancestral tablets in hishome and was executed for refusing to renounce his faith, at age 41.
