์†Œ์–‘๋กœ ์„ฑ๋‹น(Soyang-ro Church) was established in 1950 after separating from Jukrim-dongParish. Bishop ํ† ๋งˆ์Šค ํ€ธ๋ž€(Bishop Thomas Quinlan) converted a traditionalhanok at the southern foot of ๋ด‰์˜์‚ฐ(Bongui Mountain) into a church, appointing Father์•ˆํ† ๋‹ˆ์˜ค(Father Anthony) as the first pastor. During the Korean War in 1950, FatherAnthony was captured by communist forces and martyred while protecting hisparishioners. After the war, the present church was built in 1956. Designed ina modern fan-shaped structure, it created a space where priests and faithfulwere closely connected. It is recognized as the first modern-style Catholicchurch building in Korea and holds significant architectural value.

Servantof God Father ์•ค์„œ๋‹ˆ ์ฝœ๋ฆฌ์–ด(Father Anthony Collier,1913โ€“1950)

Bornin Ireland in 1913, Father Collier was ordained in 1938 and sent to Korea in1939. After serving in Gangneung and Hoengseong Parishes, he was appointed thefirst pastor of Soyang-ro Parish in 1950, though the outbreak of war soonhalted normal ministry. Even during the conflict, he remained with his flock,saying, โ€œThis place is very dangerous. You must flee. I will stay and protectthe church.โ€ Captured by North Korean soldiers on June 27, 1950, he declaredfirmly, โ€œI am a Catholic priest,โ€ and was martyred. As he fell from gunfire, heshielded the parishioner beside him, giving his life at age 37. His remainswere recovered in 1951 and buried at Jukrim-dong Church in Chuncheon.
