The land of martyrs, Jeonju, is a place where theCatholic faith began alongside the founding of the Korean Catholic Church. Inthe Diocese of Jeonju, seven martyrs of the 1866 병인박해(Byung-inPersecution) were canonized in 1984, and fourteen martyrs from the era ofpersecution were beatified by Pope Francis on August 16, 2014.
