Second Infiltration Tunnel (์ 2๋ ๊ตด, Closed every Tuesday ๋งค์ฃผ ํ์์ผ ํด๋ฌด)The Second Infiltration Tunnel (์ 2๋ ๊ตด) in Cheorwon is an infiltration tunnel discovered in 1975 in Hwasaljang-ri, Cheorwon-gun, Gangwon-do (๊ฐ์๋ ์ฒ ์๊ตฐ ํ์ด์ฅ๋ฆฌ), intended for a southward invasion. The total length is 3.5 km, extending 2.4 km north to south and reaching 1.1 km from the Military Demarcation Line (๊ตฐ์ฌ๋ถ๊ณ์ ). It is large enough to move approximately 30,000 troops per hour. Of this, 500 meters are open for visitors. Inside the tunnel, there is a large plaza capable of accommodating a significant number of troops, and the exits branch into three directions. At the time the Second Tunnel was discovered, seven South Korean soldiers (ํ๊ตญ๊ตฐ 7๋ช ) searching the area were killed by North Korean forces. The Second Tunnel has been developed as one of Koreaโs representative security tourism sites in accordance with the Iron Triangle Battlefields Development Plan (์ฒ ์์ผ๊ฐ์ ์ ์ง ๊ฐ๋ฐ ๊ณํ), and many visitors come each year. Inside the Second Tunnel, there is an exhibition hall that explains the structure of the tunnel and North Koreaโs invasion plans. The view of the DMZ seen from the Second Tunnel, which symbolizes the division between North and South, is exceedingly beautiful.
It is currently operated by the Cheorwon County Office (์ฒ ์๊ตฐ์ฒญ) as part of the DMZ Peace Tourism course, and in addition to the Second Tunnel, there are various nearby attractions such as the Cheorwon Peace Observatory (์ฒ ์ํํ์ ๋ง๋), monorail cars (๋ชจ๋ ธ๋ ์ผ์นด), and the Cheorwon Crane Museum (์ฒ ์ ๋๋ฃจ๋ฏธ๊ด).
