Dannae Shrine

Dannae Holy Family Shrine is a place of pilgrimagededicated to the sanctification of families. Most of the martyrs commemoratedhere were family members who gave remarkable witness to love and unity even inpersecution.
A 5.2 km pilgrimage trail follows the valleys andridges of Waryong Mountain. At the summit stands a statue of the SacredHeart of Jesus, overlooking the pastoral routes once walked by St.Andrew Kim Dae-geon. Along the trail are Black Rock and CaveRock—hideouts for persecuted believers during the Byung-in Persecution—as wellas paths tracing St. Andrew Kim’s ministry.

About the Saint
St.John Yi Moon-u (성 이문우 요한, 1810–1840)
Born into a noble Catholic family in Icheon, he lost his parents at age fiveand was adopted by Barbara Oh, a devoutwoman in Seoul. In obedience to his adoptive mother, he married, but afterlosing his wife and two children, he lived the rest of his life in celibacy.
Appointedas a catechist by Bishop Laurent Imbert (범 라우렌시오),he worked zealously for the mission. When arrested during the Gi-haePersecution, he told the officers, “The Lord calls me with a special grace—howcould I not answer His call?”
