Whenthe Byung-in Persecution broke out in 1866, Antonio Jeong was arrested bygovernment soldiers in Jinju. Relatives and local officials who knew himattempted to tempt him, saying, “Just say you renounce the faith, and we willensure you are not taken away,” but his faith never wavered. Dragged from hiscell and mercilessly beaten, he died a martyr at the age of forty-five. Afterhis martyrdom, his body was left in the prison for three days, yet it did notstiffen, and his face retained a healthy color, appearing as though he werestill alive.
