Afterthe Byeongin Persecution, this area became home to a large and active Catholicvillage. It was also the residence of the missionary Fr. Robert, and from thiscommunity the present Gyesan Cathedral later developed. The parish maintainsdisplays including a bust of Fr. Robert, preserving the memory of its earlymissionary roots.
