묵호본당(Mukho Parish) was elevated toparish status in 1948, and in 1957 the church building was completed under thepatronage of Star of the Sea. The parishholds annual memorial events in honor of the martyred priest Father 라 파트리치오(Father Patrick La).

About the Saint
Servant of God Father 패트릭 라일리(Father Patrick Ryley, 1915–1950)
Born in Ireland in 1915, Father Ryley was sent toKorea in 1947. Appointed pastor of Mukho Parish, he remained with his communitywhen the Korean War began, saying, “I cannot flee and abandon my flock. I willdie keeping the church.” Captured by North Korean forces, he declared calmly,“I will not run. I mean no harm,” holding firm to his faith. He was executed onAugust 29, 1950, at Bamjaegul in 옥계면(Okgye-myeon), Gangneung, and later his remainswere transferred to the clergy cemetery at Jukrim-dong Church in Chuncheon.
