Paju is home to Panmunjom 판문점, where theKorean Armistice Agreement was signed, and is one of the few cities wherevisitors can directly view North Korean territory. Because any potential northward invasion route toward Seoul would likely pass through Paju, the area hosts a very high concentration of military bases. It is therefore common to see military vehicles and tanks on the roads. Parts of the city are also classified as malaria-alert zones.
