This site was established through a joint agreement among the Ministry of Environment (환경부), the Ministry of National Defense (국방부, Republic of Korea Army 3rd Division 육군 제3사단), and Cheorwon County (철원군) to convey to the world the symbolic message of the DMZ, where war, peace, and ecology coexist. It offers exploration courses that allow visitors to directly experience a once-unknown world that had never before been opened to civilians, and it has received strong interest not only from people in Korea but also from around the world. There are two courses: the Cross Tower Trail (십자탑 탐방로, approximately 3 hours) and the Yongyangbo Wetland Trail (용양보 습지 탐방로, approximately 2 hours).
